there and back again

It was nice to be home in our own beds last night, but weird to actually be glad about it. Four days may not be much of a trip, but it was enough to make us feel less homesick for Ontario because it suddenly seems so much closer and easier to get to, and enough to show us that we really are starting to feel at home in Calgary. Although the process of defending his dissertation and finishing his degree seemed pretty anticlimactic after all the time and stress, Rob is happy to be done and very ready to move on. As are we all. The boys figure Daddy will have lots of time for skating and skiing and playing hockey now. Hmmm. The boys have nearly a week of holidays later this month, and a week next month, but reading week for Rob does not correspond, so SOMEBODY is going to have to play hooky at some point if we want to do anything fun. Ted has made himself a peanut butter and cheese sandwich for lunch, his current favorite. Not mine. Every stitch of clothing in the house needs to be washed today, which means, if every other cataclysmic washing day is any indication, that I will get half done (meaning one half of every pair of socks, all the shirts that don't fit, the Sunday clothes, and only Ted's underwear) and forget what I'm doing after that so that tomorrow morning will arrive and no one will have anything to wear except Ted, who generally scavenges in Asher's drawers, the dirty laundry basket and the dress-up bin for his outfits anyway. I hear that Nathan started work in Toronto today. I hope all went well, and expect an update as soon as he finds out what he will be doing etc.
