The packing up is going well (in my very uneducated opinion -- I've never moved a real household before, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to go). Nathan scored a bunch of great, free boxes at Staples. We've filled up the van once with bags and boxes for Value Village, and will do so again at least once. We had a realtor come over last night, and things look promising here. He came recommended by some members here -- he has bought and sold for various families in London, and they all seem to trust him, so that's good. Since we are hoping to move quickly, I packed the most essential things first, which means we're already eating cheese, crackers, toast, and apples on disposable plates for most of our meals. And wearing the same three outfits over and over. And playing with the same two toys and reading the same three books.
A wonderful friend came over this morning to help for a couple of hours. (It was Irene Saunderson, for Mike and Kimberley, who will know who she is, and probably could have guessed that it would be her coming to help.) She also brought us dinner, leftovers from her daughter's (Tisha's) wedding. Mmmmmm.
Nathan's commute was unusually long this morning. There was heavy rain, freezing rain, and thunderstorms throughout the area today, and it took him 3.5 hours to get to work.

i totally feel for you, having done the same a few months ago. we didn't figure we had tons of stuff... until we had to pack it and saw the reality of several years of accumulation. i wish i could be there to help you, although you might not appreciate my random style of packing. i think the greatest help we got was when my visiting teacher came over and packed my kitchen. that was the thing i had most dreaded doing, i guess because i had no idea how to do it effectively. she used to work for a moving company and managed the whole thing, including the pictures from the living room and other fragile items, in about two hours. She also loaned us her tape gun, which i totally recommend using if you can find one to borrow. Are you planning to rent a u-haul? Have you found a place yet? is there someone you could get to watch your kids for a few hours now and then so you can really focus on packing for a while? i found that it was really hard to organize myself and get much done when i had kids getting toys out and wanting me to play hockey with them and stuff. our thoughts are with you.
No, I wouldn't mind your random style of packing, mine is the same. Poor Nathan has to come home each day to see more boxes packed up labeled things like "good glasses, scout books, saran wrap, plastic bowls, sunscreen". How handy having a pro mover friend.
I have a couple of teens who will come and amuse the kids while I pack. And thankfully, Miriam is on a good napping streak. Sometimes she'll go for a week only napping for about 1/2 hour, and then she'll make up for it with consistent 2 or 3 hour naps.
